Jumping Back In with All Three Feet
The pandemic has been hell for my creative side. I haven’t written anything that wasn’t for my day job, which is writing software documentation. So, I haven’t written anything anyone would want to read.
This is especially irksome to me because the last event I attended before the world closed was a Writing Day Workshop in March of 2020, where I met with an agent that asked to see my book when I was done writing it. An agent. Wanted. My Book. Did I then write the book? No. I took that massive jolt of inspiration and used it to build survival kits and buy masks. It is now July of 2021 and I am just now starting to work on the book again. I’m nothing if not fashionably late.
My personal life has been in upheaval lately too. Nothing like your emotions on a rollercoaster to help you focus, right? I’ve been having a lot of trouble sleeping because of it. So, during a wakeful night 48 hours ago, I did the only rational thing someone in my position would do. I entered two writing contests and committed to submitting a story to an anthology collection.
Please, take a moment to be wowed by my genius.
So, I sat down in front of my computer tonight to start writing. What I did instead was retool my author website (please leave a comment about how nice it is!) and cast a creativity spell on myself using a mojo bag I bought at Marie Laveau’s in New Orleans last October. So, I mean… that counts, right? It’s all in the ballpark of writing, right?
The first writing contest entry is due in 48 hours. The second is due in nine days. The anthology story is due…. sometime after that. Keep your fingers crossed that that spell works.
